Redwood Llamas has been packing with llamas since 1984 and has been a commercial outfitter for the last 18 seasons. Our experienced guides have years of packing experience. Our goal is to provide you with a memorable safe vacation, free of stress, and to expose you to what we feel are the best mountains in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Our summer trips are located in the spectacular San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado. Our hikes lead us through historic gold mine areas along the way through beautiful lush green valleys where elk and deer abound. There are times when we are above timberline with a 360 degree view of Colorado's highest peaks.

Redwood Llamas is located in Silverton, Colorado. Our season runs from June through September. We have 3 to 5 day trips. Group size is generally between 4 and 10 people.

We provide food and tents. Guests bring only personal gear, sleeping bags, and pads.

As you hike with this well trained pack animal the llama soon becomes a hiking companion. The llamas are calm hard-working animals, making them easy to handle on the trail.

    Welcome Aboard!
Durango was founded by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway in 1879. The railroad arrived in Durango on August 5, 1881 and construction on the line to Silverton began in the fall of the same year. By July of 1882 (amazingly, only 9 months after construction began) the tracks to Silverton were completed, and the train began hauling both freight and passengers.
The line was constructed to haul silver & gold ore from the San Juan Mountains, but passengers soon realized it was the view that was truly precious.
This historic train has been in continuous operation for over 123 years, carrying passengers behind vintage steam locomotives and rolling stock indigenous to the line.
Relive the sights and sounds of yesteryear for a spectacular journey on board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

The underground world of the hard rock miner is rarely seen by “outsiders.” Now you, too, can go “on shift” and see the earth from the inside out. A one hour guided tour takes you 1/3 mile into Galena Mountain where you follow the vein and learn how mining was done. At The Old Hundred ™ you get to see and experience actual operating mining equipment in a real mine setting.

Outside, the awesome scenery is worth the visit. Located in Cunningham Gulch just minutes from historic Silverton and easily accessible by car or RV, wildlife and natural wonders abound. Beaver and brook trout can be seen in the ponds below the mine, and elk, deer, and bear are sometimes seen. Spectacular waterfalls cascade down the cliffs from the alpine basins above you. In midsummer wildflowers dot the slopes and in fall the hills turn “gold” with the brilliant aspen trees.

If you enjoy quality horseback riding in a beautiful Colorado setting come see us. Great riding trails and views, well conditioned horses, and experienced guides are the trademarks of Debs Livery. Deb believes mountain riding is:
" Picking your way through rocks, sagebrush and pinions. It is negotiating streambeds and charging up narrow ravines, and ducking tree limbs. The world looks different from atop an athletic mountain horse. Your working with him through the terrain and connection between horse and rider is what horseback riding is all about. "

Our location, in southwestern Colorado, near Ridgway and Montrose, is both convenient and close to the magnificent San Juan Mountain range.

Jeeping is a historic tradition here in Ouray. The roads you will travel will take to see the most majestic vistas of the San Juan Mountains over some of the most rugged terrain in the United States. Back in the early 1800's these trails were only passable on foot or horseback. They were created by the prospectors, trappers and miners to access mining claims and hunting grounds. It took sheer determination to seek the richness of the gold and silver that was discovered in the highest elevations in these mountains.

Today, you will trace the footsteps on many a men before you on roads much wider, or at least in most places! All the mines are closed now and all that remains is the history your tour guide will share, a few townsites, mining memorabilia and the grandeur of the sights before you. As there is much more to the story to tell... we invite you to accept our invitation to come along and see it for yourself.
