    Sounds and scenes from the era of steam powered railroad logging come to life at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in the Sierra National Forest south of Yosemite National Park.
    From 1899 to 1931, the Madera Sugar Pine Lumber Company operated miles of narrow gauge railroad track. During that time, nearly one and a half billion board feet of lumber were harvested from the forests. Five wood burning Shay locomotives hauled massive log trains to the mill over the extensive rail network.

    Today, the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is a restoration of the old narrow gauge Madera Sugar Pine Lumber Company Railroad. A section of the original railbed has been reconstructed using the same techniques used at the turn of the century. Two vintage Shay steam locomotives have been brought in from the Westside Lumber company and restored to provide authentic motive power for the trains.

    Shay number 15 was built in 1913 and weighs 60 tons. Number 10, built in 1928 weighs 83 tons and is the heavest operating narrow guage Shay locomotive today. Railcars once used to provide transportation for logging and track repair crews have been refurbished and are now operated for passenger excursion. Antique Model "A" Ford gas engines power the trolley-like "Jenny" cars over the route.

    The morning begins with the spectacular sights from Washburn Point & Glacier Point of Yosemite Valley, Little Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Starr King, Clouds Rest, Vernal & Nevada Falls and more You will have time to walk out to Glacier Point, where you can look down from 7000' to the Valley where we will tour & stop for lunch later in the day.

    Making "photo stops" at the view points, you will see E1 Capitan, Yosemite & Bridalveil Falls, the Three Brothers, Cathedral Rocks & much more... as we make our way into Yosemite Village & the Visitor's Center at lunch time. Approximately an hour of free time will be spent here. A full service deli, pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs & all of the accompaniments are available. Exhibits, displays & gift shops are also located at the Visitor's Center.

    Additional stops will be made departing Yosemite Valley on the way to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias for a light Nature Walk before returning to your accommodations in the late afternoon.     We are located on Highway 41 behind the McDonalds next to the intersection of Highway 49 in the center of Oakhurst. In addition to bicycles, we carry sporting goods, snow sleds and clothing for other summer and winter sports. We service all types of bicycles and have all the accessories, helmets, parts, shoes, sunglasses, and car racks that you might need.

    We have ride guides available to show you where all the good trails are and do mountain bike shuttles up to the top of the downhill trails. We rent bicycles and demo bikes of all types including full suspension bikes from Specialized, Giant and Karpiel with rates starting at $ 30 per day, as well as trail-a-bikes and kid trailers. We have ride guides available to show you where all the good trails are. If you are coming to this area by plane, you can ship your bike here for assembly and return shipping so you won't have to worry about the cost and hassle of transporting it.
